|Press Releases: STPI signs MoU with Brocade for SAN's|
The Software Technology Park of India (STPI) and Brocade, a provider of infrastructure for Storage Area Networks (SANs), will set up " Centre for Excellence" to promote the adoption and deployment of SANs in India.A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by STPI Director B V Naidu and Brocade Vice-President James LaLonde in this connection here today. Under the MoU, Brocade would set up a SAN lab in STPI premises here and equip it with hardware valued at more than one lakh US dollars to demonstrate the strength of Brocades commitment to India. It would also assist STPI in installing SAN and ensure regular updates of technology and products. Besides, it would also provide training to STPI staff on the SAN.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr LaLonde said Indian market was poised to transform its IT infrastructure to the networking model for storage. As companies deployed and grew their SANs, brocade and its partners would work to provide solutions that speed up the crucial deployment. Brocade would set up its office in India before end of this year, he added. Mr Naidu said efforts would be made to ensure quick deployment of the SAN technology and utilise it at optimum level.Responding to queries, Mr Naidu said more than 60 members of the total 500 IT companies had already evinced keen interest in deploying SAN. STPI would also extend its service to non members too if they wanted to deploy SAN, he added.
He also said STPI would soon offer the Disaster Recovery Services based on the SAN fabric to all the software export community as many of them had been demanding on the DRS facilities especially after the September 11 terrorist attack on the United States. Many of these companies could not afford to create the DRS on their own and hence the facility offered by the STPI would become very critical to the growth of business of these companies. The DRS centre would be set up in Bangalore soon, he added.
